Hiking historian will discuss John Burroughs as mountain tramper

Paul Misko, a hiking historian and founder of the Catskill 4000 Club, will be the featured presenter at John Burroughs’ Woodchuck Lodge in Roxbury Saturday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m.

This Wild Saturdays event is free and will be held on the front lawn of historic Woodchuck Lodge, so bring a lawn chair or blanket. If it rains, it will be indoors.

Paul Misko will talk about John Burroughs’ hikes up Slide Mountain from Woodland Valley. Burroughs recounts these efforts in a new audio book, “Afloat and Afoot with John Burroughs,” which will be available for purchase at the Lodge on Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day Weekend.

Paul Misko enriches his talks with his own experiences leading off-trail hikes and by his extensive knowledge of these mountains.

Free tours of the Lodge will be offered before and after the talk, from 11 to 1 and 2 to 3, and again Sunday, Sept. 6 from 11 to 3.

Donations towards the ongoing upkeep of this historic site are most welcome.Visit http://www.woodchucklodge.org for more information on John Burroughs, one of the most popular writers of his time, and to become a member of John Burroughs’ Woodchuck Lodge.
