On Sunday, Oct. 7, John McDaniel, a Woodchuck Lodge board member and Program Director at the Manhattan Country School Farm, will bring his traditional hand-cranked apple press to make some fresh, cold cider. Try your hand at the crank and enjoy a cup of autumn gold!
Woodchuck Lodge is an 1862 farmhouse that was built by John Burroughs’ brother, Curtis on the east end of the family homestead farm. It was the summer home of the famed naturalist from 1910 to 1920, the final years of a productive, celebrated life.
Guided tours start on the rustic porch John built, and proceed through the first floor of the house, where Burroughs entertained guests like Henry Ford and Thomas Edison.
